JETS d'ORGUE I, II AND III (1984-91) were composed in stages. I have cherished a love of the organ for as long as I can remember, and the images of organs and the enormous spaces they fill with sound and colors have remained with me from my earliest childhood and were present throughout this project. It took some time before the first movement was performed. But once it was off the ground my enthusiasm increased and I decided to compose the remaining movements.

The overall plan of Jets d'Orgue is based on a coherent program of objectives, designed to provide an hour-long orgy (the original title was Orguasmes) of sound, color and motion, an homage to the true nature of these wonderful machines which are so often chaperoned by the reactionary philosophies of the organ maffia. The elaborate registration of Jets d'Orgue is designed to bring out the riches of every individual organ to the full. It is written in coded form, so that it can be applied to each individual instrument. A computer controlled registration console was envisaged at the outset, but with good preparation, two assistants at the stops can do the job equally well.

Jets d'Orgue has enjoyed a good many performances and several radio recordings have been made. Its main advocates are Gottfried Sembdner and Jan Hage. It featured as the introduction to the Dutch Music Days in December 1997 and was played by Jan Hage on the organ of the Domkerk in Utrecht. A recording of that performance was also made by the Dutch Radio.
